Dear friends,

I recently signed a deal with EMI. It´s a proud day in my life. I wanted to share the news because I really feel that the feedback and positivity on this site has been a huge part in making this deal happen. Thank you everyone.

It´s been a long road to get to this point but I´m as excited about making music as I have ever been. I´m old enough not to believe in fairytales, but I´ve been through enough to know what can be achieved with hard work, focus and drinking enough hefeweisen.

Music is not entertainment for me, and it is not noise to fill up the silence. It´s about ideas and ideals, about honesty and our ability to engage and shape ourselves and our society.

Songs tend to come to me when I´m trying to convert darkness into light. And despite the fact that the world continually finds new ways to tear itself apart, I do believe that it still needs its poetry.

Sometimes there is a cynicism about musicians, but I think we are in danger when we are cynical about music. Apart from love, there is no quicker route into the human heart. When I´ve been in the doldrums, i´ve tried to remember that that is something worth aspiring to.

I don´t really believe in the concept of failure, I just believe in getting up and trying to do a bit better than you did the day before. This deal has come out of many days in my life when I felt I could have done a bit better, and then tried to do so. I´m hoping it will allow the songs to reach new people.

The good days in our lives are just as much an expression of what the people around you have given you, as something you build yourself.

So thank you all my friends, supporters and working buddies - this one´s for you! x Jim
