Leon's firefighting
Some of you already know that I’m a firefighter. And in this topic I want to show you some reports of my/our doing as firefighters and paramedics.
At first something about me. I’m since one year a volunteer firefighter, we do exactly the same as “real” firefighters, the only difference – we don’t get paid for that work. I do not only the firefighting stuff; I work on an ambulance car as “third men” too (also none paid). Next year I start an apprenticeship as a motorcar mechanic. This is the condition to be a “real” and paid firefighter.
If you have any questions about firefighting, ambulance service and so on, just ask me.

What's the worst injury you've ever received firefighting (if any) if I may ask?

Some burned hairs . I’m lucky that I’ve had never a big injury. Once I burned my left hand a bit. We were called to a structure fire. For normal I’m in the, I don’t know how to explain it in English, “Water troop” (we got an attack troop – they go at first in the burning buildings, most time WITHOUT water, and search for people inside. The water troops are the guys who have the fire hose and fight the fire). So, for normal I’m in the water troop, but this day I have to go with one other guy first in that building, as attack troop and to my bad – of course without water. It was a middle big family house; the fire started in the kitchen, but went to all other room when we arrived. So we go in there, the house owner said that he miss his little daughter, he thinks she is on 2nd floor in her room. We ran throw some flames (our uniform can handle the direct contact with fire for about 8 seconds). Some moments later we were in the second floor, I put my hand on a door to feel if there is fire behind. And it was.. My glove melted. I’ve never seen a sooo unbelievable hot door (We though it must be around 800° Celsius or even more). Yeah that’s my only injury yet. Btw: The little girl was not inside that building, she forget to inform her father that she is outside to play with friends…

No. If you are scared, you make mistakes. And when we made mistakes – people, in the worst case, die. BUT you need a lot of respect; you need to have respect for the fire. If you go in there like Rambo, people die too. You need to know what you doing and that people need you. When you arrived at the scene, and you see there is a house on fire you don’t think about that normal people would scare the s**t out of them now. You think not about fear. Not about what happened when you go inside. Not about what happened when you never come out of this building again. You know what you have to do, and you do it. You may think we work and do like machines, without any feelings or so. But that not the truth, when the fire is out, all people are save (or dead, what we don’t want), there are so many feelings in you. Have you make mistakes in there? Did the people die because your mistake? And so on. We often have to make hard decisions, and without a huge amount of humanity you can’t do that.

Wow Leon, that's freaking awesome! I have so much respect for you.
But, I have a question. If you don't get paid... how do you survive? :/

Re: Leon's firefighting

Re: Leon's firefighting
Oh okay. Fuck, it's like you live my dream life. I want to just, do stuff, help people. I don't care about the money, as long as I can help people a lot, I'm good. The only reason I want to have money is to be able to meet my bf, to finally be with him, but otherwise, hell, I'd be happy with just enough to have a place to sleep and enough to eat.
But yeah, I'm glad you like doing what you do. And it's fucking awesome :D I hope nothing bad happens and that you're able to always do what you love.

That inspired me. The September 11, 2001.
After i saw how the firefighters (343 of them died ) ran into the burning World Trade Centers to help the people, i knew that is what i want to do.
My big dream is it to be an New York Firefighter..

I mean, Shettino was earlier off the ship then anybody. And the Titanic captn. crashed a Ice-Mountain. Wish he hadnd seen. So, Concordia was the stupid captain and titianic was the nature. True story. You can google it.

At 9/11 i was six years old. It wasn't like that that i saw it on TV and said immediately "I want to be a firefighter". That became some years later. But 9/11 was the trigger for my firefighter dream.
But i spent a long time on 9/11 - i read..idk..much more then 50.000 pages (Internet and books) saw dozens of documentations about it and so on. You know some people are saying that 9/11 was inside job made of George W. Bush..i wanted to make me my own picture of that.
And yeah..if sometimes this happens again, i want to be there and help. That's why I'm a firefighter
btw: for a long time a wanted to be an American Soldier - but i think, firefighter is the better way.
