Veronika Decides To Die
First topic message reminder :
this book is pretty good, i read it, later i saw a movie. i think movie was fucked up a bit by Buffy actress, they should have put there someone unknown but oh well...
i was so disappointed because of the end... i thought she's gonna die...
this is the base for Saint Veronika song (if anyone's interested)

Re: Veronika Decides To Die
- Spoiler:
- you're a good mod Jesse
it's about her failing to kill herself and ending up in a bedlam with diagnosis she's gonna die in a week. doctor said she's done so much damage to her heart that she's going to die.
with time she started to regret that and appreciate life but it's too late...
and she met someone...
Re: Veronika Decides To Die
I love the book, im not done with it,yet.
But i've seen the movie. ANd yes, the movie is sooo far away from the book. But it's also awesome.

Re: Veronika Decides To Die
i don't like the movie because of Buffy. they should have put there unknown girl to keep the Veronika effect. with Buffy it seems familiar and you don't get the vibe
Re: Veronika Decides To Die
I've never watched Buffy...
But idk why, I started reading the Book, and i had a brow Veronika (hair colour!!!) in my mind... I have no idea why.

Re: Veronika Decides To Die
I read that book a while ago. Maybe... five years ago? I remember thinking I liked it, but now I don't remember it at all. Maybe I'll have to read it again...
But honestly, I got tired of Paulo's books. They were all too similar. Maybe the problem is I read too many of them in a row.

Re: Veronika Decides To Die
Short plot:
It tells the story of 24-year-old Slovenian Veronika, who appears to have everything in life going for her, but who decides to kill herself. This book is partly based on Coelho's experience in various mental institutions (see the biography Confessions of A Pilgrim by Juan Arias). It is based around the subject of madness. The gist of the message is that "collective madness is called sanity".
I read the book I think two years ago because the tittle and plot got my attention. And I liked it but there were some parts a bit boring and the end weak and predictable

I just... I don't know. Paulo isn't that great of an author. The plot of his books are good, but he's predictable and stuff.

Re: Veronika Decides To Die
Because I had nothing better to do yesterday when they played it:
They found an empty bottle on her windowsill
The day her mother lost her sleeping pills
She was sick and tired of being invisible ->Veronika wanted to die because she hated her normal life
Hard to see in color when you're miserable
Veronika, Saint Veronika
You can't leave this world behind
So be strong enough to hold onto us
We're still right here by your side -> I interpret the chorus like Veronikas friends from the mental
hospital want to save her.
No one ever thought that she was capable
And the damage done is irreversible
Now she clings to life inside a hospital -> Mental Hospital
Like she's trapped inside a frozen waterfall -> Film scene when she commited suicide.
Always said her life was never meant to be ->Before she commited suicide
Stuck here living someone else's dream -> I think never said in the book but in the film
Well beyond your window there is so much more
Even every prison has a open door -> When she and Eduard are breaking out of the Mental
Hospital
Veronika, Saint Veronika
You can't leave this world behind
So be strong enough to hold onto us
it's just not your time to die
And while the angels sleep
All of the devils are awake
Waiting to steal your love -> End of the book when Eduard though she's dead
Right outside of Heaven's gate
And all the sacred hearts
can't numb the feeling from the pain
Cause when the drugs don't work
you're gonna curse His holy name
Damn God, yeah, God, yeah
Damn God, yeah, God, yeah
Veronika, Saint Veronika
You can't leave this world behind
Oh Veronika, Saint Veronika
We're still right here by your side
So be strong enough to hold onto us
You can't leave this world behind
Oh Veronika, Saint Veronika
it's just not your time to die -> Also can be Interpreted: She had heart probs when she woke up
after she tried suicide.
